Collage Montage Art Cards By Trish Bayley

I love to take images and bring them all together to make them into Collaged Montage cards! You can pay big bucks for complete stamps like these...why go to the unneccesary expense when you can create your own collages from smaller rubber stamped images you already own!

Half the fun is in the experimenting! Try it and see!

Directions

Masking Techniques

Both of the cards shown on this page where created using 'Masking Techniques';

I use Post It Notes to create masks to protect my stamped images.

Simply stamp the images you are going to use onto post it notes, next cut out the image using scissors. Remember to cut just inside the stamped lines so you eliminate the 'halo' effect.

Once you have stamped your image onto the card stock, place your 'MASK' over the top of the image so that it completely covers it. This protects the image itself.

Next stamp OVER the top of the masked image.

When you remove the mask it will reveal a perfectly preserved image. The image you stamped OVER the mask will appear to be in the background.

When creating more complex collages like these I find it best to leave the Masks protecting the images the whole time.

Adding Colour To Collage Montages

Colour was first added to the collages using the 'Direct To Paper Technique';

Take a sponge - any type will do, I use bathroom, cosmetic and celluosse sponges. Rub the sponge onto dye inkpad to take up the colour.

Next rub the sponge itself onto the card stock to transfer the colour. Reink your sponge as needed to fill in the colour. I find it best to leave the masks on the stamped images to protect them while 'DTP-ing'

You can use any types of inkpads for this technique, I tend to use dye inkpads as they are my favourite mediums.

I add colour to the actual stamped images themselves using Watercolour pencils and a water brush to add extra colour and detail.

Creating The Montages

This is is the order in which I stamped the images on these pages to create the Montages in the cards:

Card One - Top Right:

Stone Model, Butterfly, Urn, Madonna, Compass then finally I repeat stamped the word background to fill in the blank areas.

Card Two - Left:

Butterfly, Woman, Word Background, Face.
